this is the most glorious thing ever ...

wax paper

is it wax or is it paper ... ?

if i set fire to it ... would it melt or would it burn?

it's got to be one of the most useless things ever ... i've only seen it used for one thing ... and i've never really felt the need to use it ... i've never purchased wax paper ... and who the hell invented it ... i just want to know the thought process behind what led them to invent wax paper

the only one to blame for this is me

i had the opportunity today to steal a leaf blower ... and i passed ... i just walked past an abandoned leaf blower ... i mean i would have had to grab it and run because the owner was 10 feet away ... but her back was turned ... it would have taken her a second or two to realize ... but the point is that i had to opportunity ... and of course i have those "do not steal" flags going off in my head

first rule in economics: people think rationally?

ok there is something i just dont understand about the hostility towards advertising ... in my advertising ethics class the other day we were talking about this economist who went on and on about how advertising creates the desire for a product and so the product is produced as a result of the advertising ... and how if advertising didnt exist then the desire would not exist so there would be no need for advertising
and when it comes to things like teeth whitening strips i might understand ... but before there was the advertising some vain person had the need for perfectly shiny teeth without the huge expense of going to the dentist ... so the product was created and then in order to get the product out there they cant just stick it on a shelf somewhere ... they have to tell people somehow ... so then comes the advertising ... this economist has the story backwards ...
plus in his mind ... you can pretty much blame everything on advertising ... well if there wasn't an advertisement for oh i dont know mcdonalds ... maybe that person (who sued the pants off of mcdonalds for the hot coffee) wouldnt have gotten coffee that day ... maybe they didnt need coffee but they saw an ad and they suddenly woke up with the strong desire for a nice cup of mcdonalds coffee ... and they went out into the world and burned the shit out of themselves ... maybe they should have just sued the pants off of some rando ad agency for making them want coffee in the first place ... and maybe people will start suing ad agencies for making them fat too (i wonder if this has already happened) ... maybe i shouldnt been putting ideas like these into people's heads ... because it'll probably happen now ... SORRY (i swear im on your side here you ad people you)



ps ... i was reading about Generation O ... for fat ... in my adv ethics book and obesity in children is also advertising's fault ... as well as teen pregnancy and unemployment

The Roommate Effect

last night i learned all about what i like to call the Roommate Effect ... it's kind of like Murphy's Law ... but crappier ... anything that can go wrong will ... and anything that you're roommate does ... only messes up your stuff not theirs ...

ive been working myself to death for weeks on hundreds of ideas for my advertising classes ... just constantly working late into the night ... and i had all my drawings on the floor next to my desk ... when my roommate spilled some strawberry drink all over them ... they are all pink and they smell strongly of alcohol ... they hit my notebooks ... my drawings ... my books ... it's everywhere ... and the floor is permanently stained ... none of it hit her stuff ... the perfect ending to the absolute worst week

ive already talked to her about it ... which made me feel a whole lot better ... but im still going to have to redo all my adv drawings ...

The Disadvantages of Free Hot Chocolate

Yesterday I was at the cafeteria getting some lunch with a friend and it was about 20 degrees outside ... or at least thats how it felt ... and there was this little stand of hot chocolate by the door ... (but the thing with the cafeteria is when you walk in you swipe your card so it's not really free ... it's prepaid) ... so i grab some hot chocolate on the way out ... bad idea
1. hot chocolate is hot ... it burns when spilt
2. hot chocolate is liquid ... when it's done burning it turns cold and lingers
3. hot chocolate is sticky ... so not only was i more cold than i was before i got to hot chocolate ... i was sticky as well
